TELEVISION NEWS BROADCAST

As a group of 3-4 members, your broadcast team will plan, research, write, and produce a complete television news broadcast 5-8 minutes in length. Each individual member of your team will be responsible for producing at least one complete news segment for the broadcast. You will be graded both on your individual contribution to the broadcast and on the quality of the final product as a whole.   

Each member of the group must appear on camera and speak for at least 1.5 minutes. 

Group Work: The group will work together to select newsworthy topics, conduct research, and organize segments into a cohesive

  • presentation.
  • Individual Work: Each individual member will write the script for their speaking role(s), provide peer review and feedback for their team members’ scripts, and present their segment(s) on camera.

 

Assignment Guidelines

 

The final news broadcast video (5-8 minutes) must demonstrate a complete and cohesive news program with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Editing and splicing within and between video segments is acceptable, but not mandatory. The final broadcast must include the following features: 

  • Appearance on camera of at least one news anchor, at least one reporter, and at least one analyst (Segments also may include the role of primary source(s) as interview subjects. Interviews are encouraged, but not required)
  • One hard news segment 
  • One soft news segment
  • At least one additional segment of your groups’ choice (editorial, sports, weather, business, or entertainment news, for example)
